JEC Feedback

add resins was fortunate to attend the world’s premier composites trade show JEC - Paris, in March 2016.

Meeting with various principals  and suppliers (especially Ashland and Lantor) are always important for communication and relationship purposes, plus gleaning in- depth technical information where required, from a broad spectrum of highly experienced and skilled personnel.

New trends are observed, plus some innovative new products are launched at this platform.

The show was extremely busy and well attended, with a definite air of positivity and general upturn in most economic regions, which bodes well for the future of the industry.

Watch this space for a couple of exciting new products, including the new Derakane™ Signia™ Range to be launched later this year, with some groundbreaking new features!  Refer to our website - www.addresins.com - under the media section (USA - launch April 2018, Europe - June 2018, and to follow later in the year - South Africa).

An innovative handheld colour sensor linked to Instint™ colour matching machine, was also launched and add resins was fortunate enough to return to SA with one!

add resins To Distribute DOW PU

add resins is pleased and proud to announce that it has established a distributor relationship for the marketing and supply of industrial elastomers and rigid foam systems from The Dow Chemical Company, better known as Dow, a top global chemical company

Dow has more than 60 years experience and supplies top quality products for a variety of industries. These products will be gradually introduced to the market in a controlled and phased approach.

This quality range of products include taxidermy and marine foam systems, insulation foam, bakkie spray coatings and linings, concrete mould products, electrical encapsulation, granulated rubber binders, wear resistant elastomers, plus a host of other applications.

Innovation for High Temperature Applications

Ashland’s DERAKANE™ 470 HT-400 resin – a heat and acid-resistant novolac epoxy vinyl ester resin – can be used for applications that need to perform at temperatures of over 230ºC.

High-temperature fiber-reinforced plastics (FRP) were developed as alternative materials for chimney liners, gas scrubbers and industrial linings that need to withstand temperatures of 230ºC and above.  Often these environments require not only outstanding heat resistance but also chemical resistance, e.g. too strong acids.  Various construction materials have been evaluated by design engineers for these severe conditions, but most of them are not capable of withstanding all these conditions – which results in limited service life expectancies and potentially higher costs.

FRP systems utilizing DERAKANE™ 470-36S or DERAKANE™ Momentum 470-300 novolac-based resins perform admirably when faced with the most corrosive high-temperature environments and thermal shocks – but even for these high-performance resins, temperatures of 230ºC and more still represent a challenge.  Through modification of the polymer backbone and adjusting the resin/monomer ratio, Ashland scientists have opened up new opportunities for FRP in high-heat applications.  Depending upon the post-cure schedule, DERAKANE™ 470 HT-400 novolac epoxy vinyl ester resin features an increased glass-transition temperature (Tg) in the range of 190-232ºC as well as improved acid resistance, making it very suitable for use in highly corrosive environments.  Moreover, with a tensile elongation value of 3%, DERAKANE™ 470 HT-400 can also offer the usual good toughness properties of other known vinyl ester resins, far surpassing that of other highly cross-linking resin systems produced by competitors.  This makes it possible to produce FRP laminates that can more easily withstand frequent temperature changes.

There are several successful case histories that can be supplied if required.
