Something exciting is happening...
The Eye is buzzing in anticipation of the grand re-opening of our cherished Old School Deli. In the next few weeks you will see a marked difference around the Deli as well as its immediate surrounds. The redesign of the Deli has been left in the capable hands of our very own Shane Smit. A celebrated master chef whose name is internationally recognized, Shane will see that our Deli meets his demanding and exacting standards. The Deli's delicious offerings will cater to every palette. Feeling peckish? Savour a range of culinary delights from the Mediterranean based menu. Or simply kick back and enjoy a cup of the aromatic, bespoke African coffee by Caffe Puro. Our delivery service will bring the
Deli right to your front door. Have your favourite menu items delivered, or choose a selection of your favourite delicatessen items, including cured meats, artisanal breads and aged cheeses - now you can enjoy the Deli’s delights in the comfort of your own home. The grounds surrounding the Deli are set to be transformed into an oasis of entertainment, offering an array of recreational facilities.
Residents will have full access to the area, which will feature a pool, beach volleyball court, Pétanque terrain, BMX pump track and skateboard half pipe. For those looking to relax, the deck separating the pool and the beach volleyball court will also house a beach bar, serving a refreshing selection of cocktails and snacks. The man responsible for this extension is architect Dino de Abreu. A specialist in urban design, estate layout, golf course design and landscaping, Dino has been involved in the design and layout of the Eye from its inception. His passionate approach to design and environmental integration has been honed over several years in the industry, and we are delighted to have Dino overseeing the activity centre project. The Eye continually strives to improve the experience of its residents and patrons. We apologise for any inconvenience caused during the construction, and appreciate your continued patience. We promise it will all be worth it when the stunning activity centre opens.

NEWS FROM OUR GOLF DIRECTORTo date, we have signed close to 30 new members this year alone and would like to wish them a very warm welcome and many happy and fulfilling rounds with us. To our new members and those who feel a tad bit rusty, we encourage attending our Saturday school, which is a great refresher course, as well as a great ice breaker to meet fellow members, both new and old. As an incentive, we’d like to invite you over for a complimentary 15-minute golf lesson, jam packed with handy tips that will instantly improve your handicap. Why do we play golf? And why do we want to encourage people to play? There are countless reasons we should all take up the sport,
but for the sake of being succinct, I’ll mention what I consider as the very best reasons: Firstly, it’s great for your health. Even though you’re only walking, it keeps you fitter than you think because you’re on feet and steadily moving. It’s a great way to make new friends, especially at our club school held every Saturday as mentioned above. Each week, names are randomly chosen from a hat, which determines who your partner will be for that session. This ensures that you get the best practice, as well as getting the chance to meet many different people with similar interests.
Golf is a sport of longevity. You can easily compete well into your eighties, alongside the very same friends you met on the course decades ago. It is a remarkable networking tool. Many people take up golf to increase their contact lists and overall network. The natural side-effect of these contacts turning into lifelong friends is a great perk too! I don’t think there is another sport that is equally challenging and rewarding at the same time. It is in our nature as people to always want to improve and continuously try to perfect our game, but I suppose that’s why there is a book titled “Golf is not a game of perfect”. You only have to beat your previous score by one, hit your career best tee shot, or nearly have a
hole in one to bring you right back the following week.
Provided you switch off your cell-phone, golf is the perfect escape from the hustle of everyday life. It’s a great way to spend hours of quality time with your friends and family. If you've ever lost someone that you used to play golf with, you’ll know what I mean about quality time with friends and family, so don’t get too upset with yourself if things aren’t going exactly to plan, remember why you are out there in the first place. A very good read that I recommend for any golfer is a book called “A good walk spoiled” by John Feinstein. It's a fantastic read, with a title that couldn’t be further from the truth. I love the game of golf and everything that comes with it. Love and enjoy every day you
are out there. Yours in Golf,
Grant Muller

A Long Walk Of Freedom:
EYE OF AFRICA WALKING TRIALS
In honour of Mandela month, we took to the hills and celebrated freedom in the open. City life can often be all encompassing. We live in a concrete jungle, besieged by high towers and even higher buildings. The fast pace of life in Johannesburg leaves little room to venture outdoors and appreciate the true wonders of the African landscape. This is why the Eye is unique - it lies a mere 17km from Johannesburg’s bustling CBD and yet offers its residents and visitors a rare and royal look at life in the African bush. Expertly designed, the 7km long walking trail is awash with elevations, dips, and turns around and through the entire estate. The walk is a treat for the senses - breathe in the cool and crisp air, feel the hard earth beneath
your feet, and watch as nature and man-made structures co-exist in perfect harmony. The 12km long Neil Evans-designed mountain bike path lies parallel to the walking trail.
The mountain bike path has been intricately etched into the mountain along the pristine lines of the golf course through the manicured estate. Perfect for those who want to appreciate the might of the bush, this path will excite any true biker who dares to test his mettle. Both paths perfectly capture the beauty of the Eye. Venture past perfectly manicured lawns that surround the golf course, jump over rocky paths, edge to the banks of the many lakes dotted across the property and stand at the pinnacle of the estate, which offers undisrupted and spectacular views of the iconic Johannesburg skyline.

SALES AND DEVELOPMENTS UPDATE
Development News:
THE VILLAGEThe Village epitomises what modern apartment living should be. Prior to the change of ownership in early 2015, there were over 300 available stands in the Village.
Today, there are less than 50, which is testament to the pride and efficiency with which the Eye now runs. Our two show-apartments have been wonderfully decorated by dhk Architect’s interior design team, who are known for their luxurious and modern ensembles. We encourage residents to attend the launch of our furnished Cobbles apartments within The Village development on the weekend of the 4th and 5th of August, as you will not only be privy to the first show house, you will also have the opportunity to invest before sales are open to the public. In addition to our show-apartments, we will launch Phase 2 of The Village – Haymarket.
Development News:
STONE QUARTERThe Stone Quarter cluster development was such a success that we are currently in the process of building a number of new show houses.
The functionality of the development, coupled with the stunning architecture and perfect location within the estate, sets Stone Quarter up to be a success from the beginning.

#Why I love the EyeCongratulations to this month’s #WhyILoveTheEye winner, Genevieve Dean, who posted this precious photo of her girls, pretty in pink, as they explored the Eye, unafraid and curious. This incredibly touching photo is one of the reasons why the Eye exists and why it’s so important that we cherish our children and the land they will one day inherit. Genevieve Dean and her family get to enjoy a delicious meal at the newly re-opened Deli.
