Meet Fanie Schoeman - New Estate Manager
Fanie joins us from Bronberg Retirement Estate, where he has been responsible for managing the entire estate processes. His background, however, is in financial services: after working for the SAPS for 12 years, he became an auditor, then worked as a CFO in a law firm. His entry into the property industry came in 2008, while he was managing his own debt collection firm. He later established his own estate agency, and this ultimately led to a position in managing various body corporates and homeowners’ associations.
He amassed significant experience in this field, working in different roles at different companies, before becoming a member of the Eye of Africa family. These past endeavours have given him an insight into what makes an estate successful – and, in his opinion, this all comes down to excellence. It’s not surprising, then, that his first priority will be to improve the level of service delivered by service providers, and to ensure that the estate adopts a more proactive approach to management. His emphasis on processes and analysis means that he identifies problems and addresses them swiftly. He’s also eager to build an engaged community at Eye of Africa, just as he did at Bronberg. Fanie has three children – Ewald, 14; Sane, 12 and Heleen, 8 – with his wife, Suzette. We shared with Fanie our new campaign #WhyIlovetheeye and he was quick to respond that it was the rolling hills and golf course that attracted him to the estate and Why Fanie loves the Eye!

Meet Tumie Motale - Assistant Golf Pro
Tumie was 12 years old when his father handed him his clubs and told his son he’d entered him into a beginner’s competition. The 26-year-old’s first experience of golf was also his first win – but far from his last. After entering the Golf School of Excellence in Johannesburg, Tumie applied for his PGA Diploma, a programme which allows participants to train to become PGA instructors while playing competitively. This was the start of great things: while here, Tumie heard of an opportunity to teach in the United States, and went for it (because playing overseas was one of his big dreams, he’d long ago made sure his passport was ready).
One of eight professionals selected to pay at the Julian & Krinsky Camps in Pennsylvania, Tumie taught every kind of player, from kids to moms and dads. It was an amazing experience which not only taught him a lot; it also inspired him to save up so that he could complete Q School (Qualifying School), so that he could qualify as a playing professional. His finish in the school’s top 30 earned him a place to play the Big Easy Tour. Following another US teaching stint, Tumie played the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Tour after graduating from the Golf School of Excellence. This proved a major milestone in his career: having shot 70 in the pre-qualifying round, which enabled him to play the MENA Tour tournaments, he then achieved an official world ranking, putting him in a
position to choose whether he wanted to concentrate on teaching or playing. He selected the latter – but an invitation to take up a post at Eye of Africa changed his mind. At the end of 2017, he played the Zambia Open before joining our team.

Meet Kuda Dhliwayo - Green's Grillhouse New Floor Manager
Kuda comes to Eye of Africa via the Thaba Hotel, where he met Desere Oelofse, the estate’s F&B manager. “I am excited to bring Kuda on board. He is very positive and extremely knowledgable, a passionate and highly motivated young person who brings energy to the venue,” Desere comments. As floor manager, it’s Kuda’s responsibility to make sure guests feel at home from the moment they enter Green’s Grillhouse. He’s also concerned with creating the right ambiance for the restaurant ensuring his guests want to return time and again.
Since he has a special interest in wine, it’s not surprising that he is currently studying to become a sommelier. That said, he is equally fascinated by new developments in all areas of the food and hospitality industry, and enjoys meetings with contacts and trying new products that can help expand his knowledge and a guest’s experience. Kuda is married to Precious – also a member of the hospitality industry – and they have two daughters, aged three and six.
Congratulations to this month’s #WhyILoveTheEye winner, Vino, who posted these amazing autumnal images of our gorgeous estate. He and his family get to enjoy a delicious meal at the Old School Deli
