THE FUTURE LOOKS BRIGHT | PROPERTY SALES
News of the exciting changes taking place at Serengeti has spread like wildfire, resulting in a marked upswing in property sales at the estate. The combination of a passionate developer and energetic sales team led to unbelievable and record breaking results. As of the end of July, 95% of The Whistling Thorns apartment village is sold out, while only 17 developer stands remain available throughout Phases 1 to 4. To meet the insatiable demand for a piece of the Serengeti lifestyle, Phase 5A was made available to the public far sooner than initially anticipated, and Phase 2 at The Whistling Thorns apartments will also be launched ahead of schedule.
The Signature Residences cluster are an exciting addition to the Serengeti portfolio and are unlike any development previously seen at Serengeti. After successfully launching at the end of June, sales for Phase 1 of The Signature Residences have been strong (60% sold at the time of writing). The construction team have already broken ground, with the first residents set to take occupation in less than a year. The future of Serengeti looks bright, and we are confident that the success celebrated over the last nine months has stimulated an increase in value. We promise to maintain and build upon the good work that has already taken place, and will continue to develop the beautiful homes for a worthy community who make Serengeti the haven of peace and tranquillity that it is.

A PIECE OF ITALY
| MEDITERRANEAN-INSPIRED PIAZZA
It has soul. It has presence. A piece of Italy is coming to Serengeti! The property that once served as the estate’s creche is soon to be transformed into an open-air piazza. With a signature restaurant at its heart, the Mediterranean-inspired piazza will also feature a bespoke coffee house as well as a culinary school.
A brainchild of the visionary Chef Shane Smith, the design of the piazza takes cues from his cosmopolitan culinary career. Whether you’re enjoying a wonderful meal at the restaurant or catching up with friends over an aromatic cup of bespoke coffee, the piazza will have something for everyone, young and old. The culinary school will train and mould the next generation of chefs who will carry the Serengeti flag with pride on their adventures across the international culinary world.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT | THE DECK RESTAURANT
The release of our new menu at The Deck restaurant caused much excitement across the estate when it was unveiled in July. Designed to satisfy every sense, the new menu is effective and simple, albeit with a delectable twist. A new dish that has already proven popular is the chicken tikka masala skewer.
From its captivating plate setting - rich with scarlet and tangerine hues against a grained plate - to the hypnotic aroma that emanates from it, evoking fragrant and romantic tales of the east, this is truly a dish that captivates all the senses. Serengeti resident Michele Singh ordered this as a starter on the day after our launch and found it to be simply delicious!
Another of the delightful offerings is the pork belly. The contrast of colour on the plate tantalises the imagination, and the intense flavour packed into each moreish bite will keep you coming back for more.
If you had a favourite item on the previous menu, don’t despair! Popular dishes from the previous menu, like The Deck’s famous Pot Pie, will return from time to time.
The unveiling of a new menu at The Deck is the start of an exciting culinary drive at the estate, which is set to continue with the opening of an authentic Teppanyaki Bar. Located directly across from Jack’s Bar, the Teppanyaki Bar will be manned by professional teppanyaki chefs who are skilled in the art of culinary showmanship and flair. Residents and guests will enjoy the unique and unbridled finesse on display as their food is expertly prepared before them.
WELCOME ON BOARD | MAX HARMER
Our new executive chef has close to
20 years of experience under his belt.
Chef Max left for Europe soon after matriculating in 1998 to pursue his dream of creating master dishes the world over and hasn’t looked back since. Chef Max first studied in England, mastering his skill under the tutelage of some of Europe’s greatest culinary minds.
After honing his skills for the better part of a decade, he took up the position of Executive Chef on board the RMS St-Helena. A direct descendent of the Titanic, this master ship served only the most luxurious and premium culinary delights to the thousands of travelers who passed through its gilded doors. In between cooking up a storm all over the world, Chef Max found the time to get married to his wife, Roxanne. The pair have two wonderful little girls, who he fondly describes as “the guiding lights in my life, always bringing me home.” Congratulations are in order as Chef Max and Roxanne will soon welcome a third little girl into their beautiful family. Chef Max arrives at Serengeti Estates after a few years working the
famous Cape Town culinary scene. Having been attracted to the estate by his love of a challenge as well as his strong desire for quality family time, Chef Max also hopes to reignite his passion for golf on Serengeti’s pristine fairways and greens.
WELCOME ON BOARD | ZAHEERA JACOBS
Our new Content Creator and Photographer joined the team in July. Walking away from a career in law in favour of pursuing her creative passion, Zaheera spends her days looking through the viewfinder of a camera and her evenings writing about her adventures. A seasoned copywriter across the media spectrum, and with years of professional photography experience under her belt, Zaheera’s expertise lie in capturing the essence of every story, whether that be in the form of photographs or the written word.
THE MAKING OF AN ESTATE
| WHISTLING THORN GOLF COURSE
The Whistling Thorn 18-hole Par 3 golf course is rapidly taking shape. Having broken ground in May, the team has succeeded in removing 60% of the bulk earthworks – to date, over 35 000m3 of earth has been moved! They are now steadily moving to the lower part of the course for further extractions, before Dino de Abreu and his team can really set about shaping the exciting new course. Keeping in line with this success, zone one - the four-hole shootout closest to the clubhouse - is officially complete and focus has naturally shifted to all detailed construction. This exciting advancement includes the general greens construction, irrigation, top soiling and construction for the feature dam.
Not only is the team moving ahead at record speed, cultivated holes are now being shaped along the picturesque stream. As the course nears completion, it will be further highlighted and defined by an array of striking vegetation that will line different parts of this one-of-a-kind course. The new 18-hole Par 3 golf course will be fast paced and contemporary in nature. No remnants of the previous course have been incorporated into the new design, meaning residents and visitors will essentially be presented with a brand new course to conquer…or be conquered by!
When you enter through the gates of Serengeti Estates, you feel a tangible buzz of activity due to the myriad development products, lifestyle offerings and additional facilities, which are currently being created. While this is definitely impressive and really exciting, it’s just one of the many components that make Serengeti a premier lifestyle estate in South Africa. Another integral component that makes up the essence of Serengeti Estates is you – every single property owner and resident.
This past month showed us what the power of a community can achieve and it showed us that the Serengeti family is stronger than ever. Well done to all those who conceptualised, planned and participated in our efforts to raise funds for Nathan O’Grady at our Family Fun Day. We witnessed an entire community pulling together to help out a little boy. To surmise, we believe it brought to light the phrase “home is not a place, it is a feeling”. So I’d like to end off by saying this to all the residents of Serengeti: “Welcome home!” Regards,
Mark Renwick
