CPO interview: PRASA's Peter Malele
Supply chain management, state-owned enterprises, strategic turnaround
Peter Malele is the acting chief procurement officer for the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA). This important state asset has huge procurement and supply chain budgets, and a mandate to “deliver commuter rail services in the Metropolitan areas of South Africa, long-distance (inter-city) rail and bus services” throughout the country. Unfortunately, PRASA has in recent years faced major challenges and accusations of misconduct. It is against this background that the new supply chain team and leadership are trying to turn things around. It’s a major undertaking, but one that Peter is facing head-on. Read More.

These legal documents aren’t just accompanied by or supplemented with illustrations or comics to aid understanding; the comic is the contract. Read More.
Rethinking customer service: why you shouldn’t go the extra mile
Soft skills, sales, customer relations, communication
You don’t need to be a regular churchgoer to often hear one of life’s most sensible maxims: “Do unto others as you would have them do to you”. It is this maxim alone, more than any other that epitomises the principle of customer service: simply provide the level of service that you would be happy to receive if the roles were reversed. If you can bump it up a notch to the “delight factor”, even better, but preferably only go there if you can sustain it regularly, or you risk creating an expectation that cannot be met consistently.
