EYE OF AFRICA PROUDLY HOSTSWIN A HOME - Making dreams come
true for TV Viewer and design duos Welcome to our winner – Single mom wins luxury R3m home at Eye of Africa.
As a resident, you’ll know that our ethos at Eye of Africa is all about making dreams come true. In November, we got to do this in a way that has changed someone’s life forever. That ‘someone’ is Zintle Kom, the winner of SABC3’s Win A Home competition. The show has kept viewers on the edge of their seats since the first minute it went on air: a part of the popular Afternoon Express magazine show, it featured three design teams – each mentored by one of the leading lights in South Africa’s design industry – pitting their talents to see who would walk away with the Judges’ and Audience Choice awards.
There was another prize, too, for audience members: one very lucky viewer would be given the keys to the home of their choice at our golf and residential estate. When Zintle received a phone call to tell her that she had just won this once-in-a-lifetime prize, she was so surprised she drove into someone! While anyone would be excited to move into their own home at Eye of Africa, Zintle’s prize is all the more special since she lost everything she owned last year, and was forced to move in with a friend. As a mother of two (Sange, 15, and Alu, 8), her greatest wish was to give her children their own home. Zintle admits that she didn’t believe she would win the prize. “I’ve never won anything – when I entered, I
sent off the email telling myself we would just see what happened,” she says.
She’s still in a state of disbelief, even now that she has the keys in her hands. “I am still pinching myself,” she says. Zintle chose a house decorated by ‘Team Visi’, designers Mpho Mphaga and Lesego Masekela, mentored by Visi magazine’s Annamarie Meintjies. “I can’t wait to make it mine,” she says. “It just felt like home from the moment I walked in. I loved everything from the colours chosen by the designers to the spaciousness – perfect for an energetic little boy!” The Judges’ Choice Award, meanwhile, went to Abiah Mahlase and Brad Muttitt. The pair have already established a name for themselves in South Africa’s creative sphere, thanks to their
successful menswear label, Amen. Known for their flamboyant flair, Abiah and Brad refused to tone their bling image for the judges – and they believe that it’s this determination to express themselves authentically that helped them win. The design duo, Tshepo Sealetsa and Banele Khoza, #Team House and Leisure won the Audience Choice Award. Congratulations to all! And thank you to all the sponsors for making dreams come true.
EYE OF AFRICA EVENTSIt’s beginning to feel a lot like Christmas
Eye of Africa kicked off the festive season with a gorgeous Christmas Market,
hosted on 12 November.
More than 1 500 visitors browsed for one-of-a-kind Christmas gifts and stocked up on beautiful decorations, while gourmet food and drink stalls provided scrumptious refreshments: think gintails, champagne and oyster shots, craft vodka cocktails, tempura sushi and samosas.
With laid back tunes from local muso Garth Taylor creating the perfect backing track, some families chose to refuel at The Deli (which, with 200 guests, was in hot demand), while the kids splashed about in the pool or raced paddle boats.
