While the beginning of a new year is always exciting, we can’t deny that we were sad to say goodbye to 2017. It was a particularly successful period for Eye of Africa, during which we launched The Village (which received a particularly warm welcome from the market), and we became the subject of social media buzz as the hosts of the fourth season of Win A Home Season – a design reality TVseries which started trending almost as soon as it went on air. We also hosted the prestigious PGA Tournament for the second time, and were extremely proud to be named one of the top 10 golf estates in the country. But, thrilling though 2017 was, this year promises to be just as remarkable,
especially since we have many exciting activities in the pipeline.
You may remember that, last year, we circulated a letter to inform you of the future establishment of retail and office space in our Village precinct and to survey the type of retail amenities and commercial space most highly sought after by our homeowners. This will not only mean more choice and convenience for you, our residents; it is also sure to enhance the value of our beautiful estate. And that’s just the beginning. We are delighted to announce that Eye of Africa will once more host the prestigious PGA Championship this year; an outstanding endorsement of our magnificent golf course. We are sure you will agree that 2018 looks set to be a fantastic year – and it’s only getting started! Here’s to a prosperous year with many memorable moments shared with family and friends.
Make The Fairway Your Front Row Seat:
PGA CHAMPIONSHIP 2018
Part of the Sunshine Tour, the PGA Championship is one of the oldest events on the South African golf calendar. It was therefore with great pleasure that we were able to announce, back in 2016, that Eye of Africa had been selected to host the championship for the next three years.
While this lends the course considerable cachet, it also means that Eye of Africa residents will be able to watch all the PGA action live from the fairways between February 8 and 11. Who needs a big screen TV when it’s all happening right before your eyes?
Eye of Africa Estate Communication:
News From Our Golf DirectorIt’s been four months since Grant Muller joined us as golf director, and already the changes made by his team have improved the Eye of Africa golfing experience. Players will notice that the fairways have been narrowed and reshaped, the ladies’ and senior tees have been moved back to correct the course rating, new bunker sand has been provided, and the course has been adjusted to play a little longer. It will also be remeasured soon. As you know, Eye of Africa will be hosting the prestigious PGA Golf Tournament from 8 to 11 February. The course will be closed from 29 January in preparation for this event. We apologise for any inconvenience caused and urge you to take advantage of the reciprocity arrangements we’ve organised at
neighbouring courses – find out more at the Pro Shop. In the meantime, with league season about to start and the Club Champs taking place on 18 and 19 March, this is the ideal time to brush up on your stroke with some extra lessons. Our female golfers are invited to join the ladies’ clinic hosted by Grant every second Sunday morning, starting at 9am. All our golfers are welcome, no matter what your level of experience. Please put your name down at the Pro Shop if you would like to compete in the league season. Congratulations to Andrew Holt, our most improved golfer. Andrew’s improved handicap, dropping from 26 to 15 in just two years, is testament to the rewards of hard work.
We’re excited to announce that our picturesque mountain bike, running and walking trails will soon be demarcated
– a very big thank you to Gavin Steyl for making this happen. If you’d like to join our estate mountain bike or running clubs, please contact me (082 551 4515 or golfdirector@eyeofafrica.co.za
On a different note, we are sadly experiencing a lot of vandalism on the estate, as well as theft of golf balls from the driving range. Please help us in this regard – simply adhering to the rules of the estate, such as keeping bicycles off the golf course at all times, makes a tremendous difference. This estate is for all of us, and we would like to make it the best in the country.

Health & Fitness Tips From Our GymDetermined to make 2018 the year you finally get into shape? Tammy Potgieter of
MissFit Training, exclusive to Eye of Africa, offers these tips and tricks to put your goal within reach.
- Heathy eating requires planning. This can be difficult when you’re caught between deadlines and household chores, so get ahead by preparing three days’ worth of meals in advance. Refrigerate or freeze them until they’re needed.
- Many people feel that they have to sacrifice flavour when they’re watching their calorie intake. While it’s true that most shop-bought sauces should be avoided because they contain a lot of additives, there are still plenty of options available: try tomato relish, Nando’s lemon and herb sauce, Dis-Chem’s Gourmet Sauces or Carb Smart products, available from Food Lovers Market. Condiments like
balsamic vinegar can also be used, along with a variety of spices (Ina Parman’s range gets the thumbs up). Try to cut down on salt - if you simply can’t do without, use Himalayan Pink Salt.
- Avoid cooking with butter and oil (unless it’s coconut oil).
- Watch your drink intake. If you absolutely cannot go without fizzy drinks, try to stick to just one a day, and replace your usual beverage for the sugar free alternative. Reduce your intake of coffee and tea, sweeten with stevia instead of sugar, and use fat-free or almond milk instead of full cream dairy.
- Quench your thirst with water and green tea. Aim for at least two litres of water a day.
- Keep up your healthy eating regime over the weekend, but allow yourself one cheat meal. It’s a good idea to enjoy this on Sunday afternoon, so that you don’t overindulge.
- Create a weight loss kit with the following tools: a food scale, a flexible tape measure, Tupperware to store prepared meals, a water bottle and gym towel.
- Ignore the bathroom scale – the more you exercise, the more you’ll weigh, as muscle is denser than fat.
